Big Girl Update

My big girl had her 5 year check up today. She was so big and brave. I've never been prouder. She talked to Dr Youth and his nurse, Joellen, answered questions, did everything they asked, and even did the eye exam. This was the first time they even tried because she's never been willing to speak before. She was awesome today. It made me think she is really ready for kindergarden in the fall. Her brother wanted it to be his appointment too, so he got weighed and measured and answered questions too. He was so funny.
Oh and yes- Mackinna got a clean bill of health.
Her stats:
46.5" inches- 97%
47 lbs- 85%

Like Uncle Robby

Today when Kaden was riding the Dino at Mackinna's school, he stood up and said, "look- I ride like Uncle Robby". (like Robby rides the snow mobile)

Gum

Over the weekend while the kids were with my mom, Kaden asked her for some gum. Its like a special Grandma thing- we never have it here. She told him she wasn't giving him any because he doesn't like and always spits it out. He told her he doesn't like "girl gum"- its too spicy. He wanted "boy gum." So they went to Target and bought Kaden some boy gum- Strawberry banana and he was happy.

While you were out

After two and a half years of sharing a room, we finally split the kids up and took over the guest bedroom. The kids spent the weekend with Grandma & Grandpa and came home to their new bedrooms- just like the show "while you were out." It was a tiring weekend- we didn't stop even for a minute. It was 9:00 tonight and I realized it was my first time sitting down all weekend. It was so worth it though. The kids LOVE their new rooms. Here are some pictures.
Kaden's new big boy dresser- his clothes were getting too big, they wouldn't even fit in the other one anymore.
Now that the train bed isn't squished over in the corner- we can actually open the toy bin in the front!
Train table moved up from the playroom.

The whole room.
This is the "girls" corner of the room. Kaden's old baby dresser is filled with doll clothes.

In the basement

For some time now, Kaden has been insisting that Neighbor Tim has mice in his basement, which is pretty likely, but what's weird is that Kaden says he saw them running into Neighbor Tim's basement from our bedroom window one morning. Some how yesterday the "mice in Neighbor Tim's basement" story prompted another interesting one.
Now Kaden is insisting there are sea gulls in Grandma & Grandpa's basement. We asked him how they got there and he told us the were knocking, like this (he knocks one fist on the other) and Uncle Robby let them in. I agreed that it sounded like something Uncle Robby might do, and asked him if he was going to go to the basement when he was at Grandma & Grandpa's house this weekend. He said, "No! I not like Sea gulls." We called Grandma & Grandpa and told them they better go down to the basement and check things out- who knows what Uncle Robby is doing down there...

Two Lights State Park

Saturday was 70 and sunny- such a great treat for us here in Maine. We just had to get outside. So housework and everything else was tossed aside and we ventured out to Two Lights State Park to hike and have a picnic lunch. It was just beautiful and so nice to be outside, especially considering the weather this week had in store for us...

Crazy Hen!
Our picnic lunch by the sea. It would have been perfect if Mackinna wasn't crying the whole time...
Mackinna played catch with Daddy for about 45 seconds, then grew tired of it.
The photographer of this picture was none other than Mackinna M Campbell. Didn't she do a great job?
Hiking... well I guess Kaden is riding
Mackinna declared her love for rock staircases on our hike, so we sought out everyone we could find.
Kaden too loved the rock staircase, after he heard his sister's proclamation.

Binoculars

Over the weekend Mark pulled out a pair of binoculars to bring into work, for a coworker to borrow and Kaden asked, "what is that?" Mark told him, "Binoculars." "Knocky Ears?" Kaden replies. A couple of times we corrected him and each time he said, "Yeah... Knocky Ears" Like- duh that is what I'm saying. I loved it. I keep making him say it again and again.

Birthday Party Photos

Hen turns five!

Mackinna had a whole weekend of big birthday plans, but a giant rain & wind storm, a tree down on the deck and no power changed some of those a bit. It still ended up being a wonderfully special weekend for our big girl.

Grandma and Grandpa Campbell arrived Thursday night just before the storm got REALLY bad. Later that night the power went out and the tree went down. Friday school was canceled so cupcakes with school friends was postponed and the jungle gym is close enough to our house that they were without power too- so those plans also changed. But since school was canceled Mark and Mackinna got to spend more time with Grandma & Grandpa. We went out to dinner and on the way there saw them working on the telephone pole that was down so we were hopeful we'd have power when we returned home. Didn't happen though.

Saturday morning we still didn't have power but we did have two cute kids cuddling in bed with us. I whispered to Kaden, "say happy birthday to you sister." Instead he sang it to her. It was so sweet and what was even better was her response: "Oh thank you Kaden, that was so cute!" Mackinna chose Mister Bagel for her birthday breakfast which was fine by us since we still didn't have power, our options at home were limited. When we returned home- we had power! Mackinna was actually disappointed because she wanted her party to be in the dark with candles. She walked around and pouted and turned out all the lights.

Finally she came around and as we got ready for the birthday party she got more and more excited. She had a great party and got lots of American Girl "credit cards" just like she asked and Uncle Shawn even made her bunk beds for her girls.

Sunday we loaded into the car and drove to Natick MA to American Girl Place- the best store Mackinna has ever been to. She used her credit cards, which she carried in her purse and got herself a new doll, a bunch of clothes and dropped Addy off to the hospital to have her leg fixed. Then Sunday night Daddy, Grandpa and the kids went to the Redclaws game while Mommy & Grandma went to the Christmas Tree Shop. It was a busy & FUN weekend that even extended into Monday when finally Hen was able to celebrate with her friends at school and took a trip to All Play after school before Grandma & Grandpa had to leave.
